First Look Friday Quick Small Reviews. Dystopicon, Exark and Blood Dungeon

Gotta keep up the pace of posting, planned to post on Thursday, but ended up returning home quite late and skipping it, but at least Saturday no plans so far, so I’ll have time then for a couple. Should succeed with the challenge if I post 2 per day for the rest of the month and I did this already earlier, so shouldn’t be a problem.

Blood Dungeon Character. As SFW as possible with this one I guess

Got three new games in, even though one released some time ago, I just couldn’t fit it somewhere in the schedule, especially after I already played the demo before. But today I actually got it and even got to one of the endings, so quite a productive First Look Friday, all bangers too.

Dystopicon

Released some time ago and I did play the demo, didn’t think it will be much more on top of the demo in release version, but it actually has more going on and I didn’t get to see all of it in one run. You are a totalitarian country citizen and you get paid for sitting home and watching TV. The goal is to keep all your needs in check (health, hunger, comfort, and fun) while making money and staying exemplary citizen to improve your life conditions. Or well you can go full rebel mode, but you still need to balance your ratings looks like to not get caught. Almost all the activities improving stats cost money and there are some changes and challenges happening, so it doesn’t feel too samey during your run. Pretty nice game and while funny and sarcastic you can see some “inspirations”.

Exark

I honestly didn’t expect this one to be this good, thought it’s another autobattler with lightly different take on Backpack Managers and I wasn’t really wrong, it just feels good to play. You build a flying ship and buildings you put on top are the items in the Backpack Manager games with synergies and positioning being important. Buildings have slots for items and workers to add more features or bonuses. Buildings might damage attackers, but you can go full pacifist and just generate resources with your buildings that increase morale and you just tank through the encounters until their timer runs out. Filling some bars with resources trigger the addition of new buildings or workers, so pacifist run does work and tutorial guides you towards that. Finished my first run fully, got some broken levels of synergies going – satisfying, would love to play some more, but time is limited sadly.

Blood Dungeon

Nidhogg creators made their own take on Vampire Survivor likes, but it’s a platformer, so you fight off crowds of monsters, levelling up and opening chests while jumping and climbing around platforms. Artstyle is qute something – gigachad with his dong dangling around Pistoletov style, what’s not to like? OST is my jam with some nice dnbish rhytms. Some characters feel like a pain to play though, but it is obviously a skill issue, since platformers are not my forte at all. Seems like a nice game for those who like survivor-likes and platformers, meta progression atm doesn’t seem too grindy, but there will be more content, characters, and meta progression.

Solid segment this week, tomorrow there will be more new stuff actually and maybe another dedicated post to new releases even, so stay tuned!
