Writing the post about what I miss from travels somewhat inspired me to write the obvious follow up. I think I’ll return to both of these later during some active travels and write the reverse posts, need to remember that, will be interesting to see how different angle will affect my opinions.
Main thing about being home for me is always my family and my friends. I think there is no priority and it’s pretty much equal sign between at least some of my friends and family. Without friends and family I don’t know if I’d even return, maybe would just stay in permanent nomadic mode.
Staying home is really good for my budget. I don’t need to pay any rent, food, and other expenses are minimal and my main money sink is meeting with friends. Perfect break to save a bit of money for the future travels, because nomad mode does burn through money really good.
I don’t need to look for some place to stay, deal with landlords, realty agents etc. I really don’t like that stage of our travels, looking for apartments, dealing with all the rent related stuff. Usually we were finding apartments really fast and landlords were mostly good with some rare exceptions when they were a little annoying to deal with, but still it’s much better to not deal with it at all at home.
Infrastructure and space where I can stream at home are available and quality is good, while in travels we did encounter our fair share of bad or complete lack of home internet, tables to put our setups on. Internet quality and stability are really important for livestreaming, so it’s a bit of a pain sometimes, but for the most part it’s fine. Only big issue was in Thailand, where we had no connection in our apartment, so I used my IRL setup to combine two different mobile unlimited connections in one, good thing they have unlimited plans at least, most countries don’t. I mean real unlim, most just have Fair Use Policy that makes your unlimited connection limited as soon as you use up 100GB or so. Some places also have blackouts and dying internet connection from time to time, at home that is a very rare occurrence.
I feel like listed more positives in travels, but honestly friends and family just tip the scales super hard for me. Back in my youth days I was dreaming about moving to another country and living there, now that I actually managed to taste it – I don’t think I would do it without some really serious circumstances pushing me. Sadly currently circumstances already exist, but even with that kind of pressure I’m still going home regularly and want at some point to just drop my backpack and just settle down potentially forever.
