My Outlast experience and horror thoughts

So my first horror game speshul stream and actually first horror game ever i think (i don’t count some experiences from early 90s, i think it was Alone in the Dark and it was english version so i didn’t understand anything, so it was pretty much 0 experience) is over and i decided to post some impressions while it’s still fresh.

So first and most important thing that i found out about myself – i’m not scared easily by these games (i think Outlast is considered a pretty good and scary horror game, so i’ll allow myself to extrapolate a bit), a couple of jumpscares were decent, but looking at chat, i think my reactions to it still were pretty emotionless. That means i was right and horror is not exactly my genre, i think watching Ela playing horror games and reacting jumpscares me more.

Second, don’t play Outlast or i guess any other hide and seek horror game where gameplay is based on running and hiding from something, if you are not scared by it and not feeling the adrenaline from being chased – that completely ruins it and makes gameplay pretty dull. All the hiding segments are becoming annoying, enemies that are camping you hard and taking ages to leave are just triggering you, so all you want is to just “speedrun” through it and finish it asap.

So overall i’d say game is pretty good, viewers liked the playthrough, i guess it was actually pretty hilarious for people to see my reactions, or rather lack of them, it was probably complete opposite to overreacting that people hate, so many enjoyed calm, a bit annoyed streamer being snarky about things happening in the game and trying to call future jumpscares and events. For some people it was still scary even with me being kinda comedy distraction, so that means game totally does its job well and “problem” is in me. That most likely kills plans to play other Outlast games, even though people said it was fun, but that was also kinda boring for me, so maybe eventually as a special “event”. Same goes to other similar games, probably will be more annoying than scary for me, BUT i might try horror games of different kind, something more action packed, like Resident Evil or Evil Within, something i haven’t seen though of course, which makes picking one a lot harder, probably some good upcoming stuff. I know that these action packed games are considered kinda meh from horror perspective compared to games where you can’t defend yourself, but if i’m not getting scared much anyway, then i at least can play some action and be less bored, so might be more “balanced” content.
